On the East Cape of Baja California, the beach runs into desert and the desert runs into estuary. Aman built its first Mexican resort where the three meet.
The East Cape sits at the southern end of Baja, on the Sea of Cortes. The water is warm and, rare for this coast, calm enough to swim. Amanvari opens here in spring 2026, eighteen keys set inside a private estate. It is the first Aman in Mexico.
The setting
Heah & Co. and Elastic Architects drew the resort low against the three landscapes. The casitas stand at raised positions, angled for the Sea of Cortes on one side and the Sierra de la Laguna on the other. Open-air courtyards pull the light through the rooms.
The materials read as local. White concrete, natural stone and tropical hardwood set the frame, in sand tones that follow the terrain. Bespoke ceramics and original work by Mexican artisans carry the interiors, and the views are framed rather than filled.
The estate
Amanvari sits within Costa Palmas, a private estate of 1,500 acres on the East Cape. There are eighteen acres of organic orchards and farms, three miles of swimmable beach, a yacht club and a deep-water marina. A golf course by Robert Trent Jones II runs through the grounds.
Days move between water and land. Snorkelling and diving on the reef, sailing out of the marina, hiking up into the Sierra. The Aman Residences look over the sea or the fairways, with private entrances and round-the-clock support from the Aman Private Office.
Aman tends to wait for the right piece of land. The East Cape was worth the wait.
The Splendid EditThe table
The kitchens run from Italian to Japanese, with the seasonal flavours of Baja threaded through. Produce comes off the estate's own orchards and farms where the season allows.
The Aman Spa holds a modern temazcal, the brand's signature Spa Houses and an open-air yoga pavilion. The rhythm is slow, and the building keeps you close to the water throughout.
Amanvari is Aman's sixth address across the Americas and Caribbean, alongside Aman New York, Amangiri and Amanyara. It arrives quietly, the way Aman prefers. Book a casita with the sea in front, swim before breakfast, and let Baja set the pace.
