Donatella Versace has a new job, and it does not carry her surname. She and Revolve Group have formed a joint venture, announced as Milan Fashion Week opened its doors. The brand has no name yet. Its first products arrive in 2027, and they begin with beauty.
The news broke on 21 September, two days before the city filled with editors and buyers. Reuters reported the partnership between the New York-listed retailer and one of the most recognizable figures in Italian fashion. Vogue published the details the same day. Donatella will lead the venture as its chief creative officer. She is seventy-one, and she is starting a company from the ground up.
The timing was chosen. Announcing the day Milan opens hands the project an audience it has not earned with a collection. No garments, no show, no name, and yet the room was already talking about it before the first look walked anywhere. That is the whole point of the calendar.
The partner
Revolve is not a fashion house. It is a machine for selling to people who shop on their phones. Its two main platforms carry around 1,600 brands, and the group posted 1.23 billion dollars in revenue in 2025. The business is built around Millennial and Gen Z customers, across apparel, footwear, accessories, beauty and home, wired into creators, events and a constant feed of content.
That changes how a new label can begin. A traditional designer brand opens with a wholesale calendar and a seasonal runway. This one can start with product, creator seeding, community events and digital storytelling, all coordinated from a single commercial platform. Beauty fits that rhythm. Cosmetics offer a lower price of entry than luxury ready-to-wear, and they sell on the pace of social commerce, one product story after another.
A house gives you an archive to draw on. A company built from nothing gives you the harder freedom of a blank page.
The Splendid EditThe venture will open across the United States, Latin America, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. Fashion and lifestyle follow the beauty launch. The scope, Vogue reported, reaches beyond conventional runway work into entertainment and culture. What it does not yet have is a name, a price architecture, a product list or a debut date. A 2027 window is confirmed. Everything more precise than that is still open.
The separation
This is not a Versace project, and it should not be read as one. Donatella stepped down as the house's chief creative officer in March 2025, after nearly three decades leading it, and moved into the role of chief brand ambassador. Prada Group then acquired Versace. Pieter Mulier is scheduled to show his first collection for the house in 2027. A Prada representative declined to comment on the new venture.
So two 2027 debuts now sit in the same year. Mulier reintroduces the house Donatella built. Donatella introduces a company that carries none of its trademarks. The archive, the Medusa, the recognizable design vocabulary all stay with Versace. The new brand has to find its own.
That is the real work of the months ahead. Her name draws attention before there is anything to see. The difficulty is turning personal fame into intellectual property that stands on its own. Naming, casting, packaging, typography, the balance between fashion and beauty, each of these will signal whether the venture means to be a luxury label, a premium digital brand, a broad lifestyle platform, or something the market does not have a word for yet.

The read
Caution helps here. The partnership is confirmed. The 2027 timing is confirmed. The beauty-first, fashion-to-follow shape is confirmed. Past that, any claim that this reshapes the luxury market or answers the question of a designer's second act is guesswork dressed as analysis. The credible version is narrower and more interesting. A designer with fifty years of instinct has tied her next chapter to a company that knows how the young buy now.
Milan will keep half an eye on it through the week. The shows fill the calendar from 22 to 28 September, sixty of them, most with a collection to defend. This one has no collection at all. It announced itself, took the attention, and left the room to wait until 2027. Few debuts have that kind of patience.
