Aman is building its first ranch, ninety minutes northwest of Austin. Stables, a creekside spa and stone pavilions set into limestone hills that most travellers have never thought to visit.
The land does the talking here. Amansanu sits in the Texas Hill Country, a run of limestone cliffs, winding creeks and wide canyon views northwest of Austin. Aman announced the resort in late April. It will be the company's sixth address in the United States.
The name follows the house pattern. Amansanu joins aman, the Sanskrit word for peace, with a word for peak. Peaceful peak. The properties that carry the prefix tend to sit where hotels rarely do, and Texas ranchland at this scale has stayed outside the ultra-luxury market. The brand is heading into open country.

The land
Standalone pavilions will be positioned for privacy, each placed to hold the view rather than the neighbour. Olson Kundig, the Seattle firm known for buildings that fold into their settings, drew the architecture. Stone, glass and long horizontal lines suit the terrain.
The resort will centre on a main lodge with several dining concepts. An Aman Spa and Wellness Center runs along a natural creek on the property. Racquet sports courts and hiking trails thread through the hills.
The stables
Amansanu introduces something Aman has not done before. Fully serviced stables sit at the centre of the ranch, the brand's first equestrian offering. Riding out across the Hill Country is the reason many guests will come.

The Splendid EditThe residences
A limited collection of Aman Residences will accompany the resort. Homes run from four to eight bedrooms, each set on a private plot of ten acres or more. Every residence has its own pool and generous outdoor living areas built for the long views.
Amansanu joins a growing American map. Aman New York, Amangiri in Utah and Amangani in Wyoming already carry the name, with Aman Beverly Hills and Aman Miami Beach on the way. Amanvari opens on Mexico's East Cape this summer.
The verdict
No opening date has been set. For now Amansanu is a set of renderings and a stretch of Texas hills, which is how every Aman begins. The company has never worked in a hurry.
