The schedule opens on the third of August. Four days, thirty-six shows, and a set of entry rules the larger capitals are still working out how to match.
Copenhagen holds its Spring/Summer 2027 season while the rest of fashion is still on holiday. The shows run Monday to Friday, ahead of the September rush through New York, London, Milan and Paris. Buyers and editors arrive before the calendar tightens, which is part of the appeal. The week gets seen on its own, not squeezed between two flights.
Thirty-six shows and presentations sit on the official schedule, run under Cecilie Thorsmark. The number is deliberate. Copenhagen keeps the programme tight enough to walk between venues, and small enough that a debut can still be the talk of a lunch.
The rules
A brand cannot show on the official schedule unless it meets a set of minimum sustainability standards. Those standards cover the materials a collection uses, how a show is staged, and what happens to unsold stock. Destroying it is off the table. The requirements have been in place since 2023 and have been tightened each season since.
The effect is a filter. Labels that want the Copenhagen platform build their supply chains around the criteria first, then design. It has changed who applies and who gets in, and it has given the week a claim the bigger capitals keep circling without committing to.
The guest
Collina Strada takes the International Guest Slot with a one-off runway show. Hillary Taymour founded the New York label on upcycled fabric and loud optimism, and the invitation is supported by The Climate Pledge. It reads as a match; the guest slot exists to bring in a voice from outside the Nordic circuit that shares the week's terms.
The returning names hold the centre. By Malene Birger and Stine Goya bring the commercial weight, Mfpen carries the menswear, and Marimekko arrives from Helsinki with its print archive. The newcomers to watch are Almada Label and Yours Truly by Peter Jensen, the latter a return for a designer Copenhagen has claimed before.
The city set a condition for showing up, then built a week the rest of fashion keeps flying in to study.
The Splendid EditThe city
Copenhagen made its name on a particular look. Ganni, Cecilie Bahnsen and Rotate built the reputation over the last decade, and the crowd outside the shows did the rest. Colour worn without apology, tailoring cut for a bicycle, a street-cast ease the photographers came back for every season.
Twenty years in, the week has stopped being the smaller cousin. It sells, it sets trends the September houses borrow, and it draws its own front row. SS27 is the summer edition following February's twentieth-anniversary season, and it opens with the same question the city keeps answering in its favour. The rest of the calendar starts in six weeks. Copenhagen starts now.
