The provisional schedule landed on 28 July. Two British houses are back on the calendar for spring/summer 2027. Both arrive with a new designer and something to settle.

The British Fashion Council set the dates first. London Fashion Week runs Thursday 17 September to Monday 21 September. Five days, and a lineup that reads heavier than the season before it. The council put the returns at the top of the announcement, and the reason is plain enough.

The returns

McQueen is back on the official London calendar. Sean McGirr shows his London debut for the house, menswear and womenswear together for spring/summer 2027. McGirr has designed the house since late 2023. This is the first time he brings the collection home to the city where Lee McQueen built the name.

Mulberry returns beside it. Christopher Kane presents his first collection as creative director. Kane made his reputation in London two decades ago, with slashed neon and gingham the whole industry copied inside a season. Mulberry hands him a house known for leather goods and a British customer who never drifted away.

The pairing sets the tone. One house works in runway theatre. The other works in bags and coats people carry to the office. London gets both on the same schedule, and it gets them at a useful moment. The city spent recent seasons leaning on its younger names while the bigger houses showed elsewhere. This restores the heavyweight bracket the calendar had been missing.

The stakes read differently for each. McGirr has had time to work through the house, and a home show lets London judge the collection on its own turf rather than through a Paris lens. Kane arrives with a name the city already knows and a brief to make Mulberry feel current without losing the customer who buys the Bayswater. Two debuts, two very different tests.

The anchors

The familiar names hold the middle of the week. Burberry, Simone Rocha, Erdem, Richard Quinn, Roksanda, Emilia Wickstead and Harris Reed all return. Barbour keeps its place. Together they give the schedule its heritage spine and free the council to spend attention on the designers still finding a footing.

Simone Rocha and Erdem carry the couture-adjacent romance. Richard Quinn brings the florals and the full spectacle. Roksanda works in colour and volume, Emilia Wickstead in the tailoring the front row wears the following season. It is a settled group. That is the point of it.

The pipeline

London's real advantage sits below the marquee. Francesca Lake, Gui Rosa and Petra Fagerstrom make their London debuts as BFC NEWGEN recipients, backed this season by Pull&Bear. The returning NEWGEN class runs deep, among them Charlie Constantinou, Liza Keane, Octi, Oscar Ouyang, Pauline Dujancourt, The Ouze and Yaku.

Fashion East returns after fresh investment from the council. A Birmingham City University showcase pushes the schedule past the capital and into the wider country. Several labels join for the first time, including the menswear name Geordie Campbell, Joyce Bao, the Indian label Lovebirds and the demi-couture house Onalaja. They land next to Aaron Esh, KNWLS, Chopova Lowena, Ashley Williams and Paolo Carzana, the designers who already carry London's vanguard.

London keeps its promise the same way each season. The names that matter next are already on its schedule.

The Splendid Edit

The shops

The week is not built on runways alone this time. Marks & Spencer makes its London Fashion Week debut with a first exclusive runway collection, womenswear and menswear together. The show runs see-now-buy-now, and it marks the retailer's centenary year in fashion. A high-street centenarian on the official schedule tells its own story about where the week is headed.

H&M is working with Nick Knight and SHOWstudio on a reimagined show. eBay returns with Endless Runway, a pre-owned presentation shoppable through eBay Live. Dover Street Market hosts a jewellery showcase in store. Selfridges backs a curated edit of British designers. J.L-A.L plans an immersive show and an afterparty tied to its Puma collaboration, and the Paul Smith Foundation resident 5000 will present through a sound bath.

The through-line is access. Watch the clothes, then buy or resell them in the same window. London is treating its retail partners as part of the editorial rather than a sponsor logo at the end of a row.

The week

The calendar is still provisional, so show times and formats can move before the doors open. The shape is set. London sits between New York, which runs 10 to 15 September, and Paris, which closes the month from 28 September to 6 October.

The question for September is the old London one. The city is good at discovery. The harder part is holding on to what it finds. McQueen and Mulberry will pull the cameras. The bench behind them decides whether the week means anything a year from now.
