A runway lasts a few minutes. The people watching from the seats decide whether it lasts any longer than that. On 13 September, one show in Manhattan builds its whole evening around the second part.

Unique Fashion Show returns to New York on Sunday, 13 September, inside the Park Avenue Christian Church. The venue is a landmark building, not a tent, and the organisers expect more than six hundred guests through the doors during New York Fashion Week. The program is presented by the Unique Fashion Foundation Association of France, and it has run nine editions across Europe and the United States before this one.

Nine designers hold the runway. They come from the United States, France, Germany, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, which is a wider map than most single-city shows manage. The founder, Gita Dzhavid, frames the aim as connection rather than spectacle: a way to link fashion to education, technology, media and international business once the lights come up. The evening is built to test that idea in one room.

The nine

THE AUDACE PARIS opens the international names. Sarah Khorchid El Kerdi runs the French house as couture lingerie, cut with a jeweller’s eye. Volskaya Atelier arrives from Kazakhstan with a collection made for teenagers, shaped around confidence and self-expression. TURSUNKULOV, founded by Timur Tursunkulov, works Kazakh heritage into contemporary haute couture.

Germany sends Lady Suits by Emmely Roloff, an architectural take on women’s tailoring. The United States brings ARA Art and Design Studio, where Sanaz Masoumi combines textile work, sculptural shapes and cultural narrative. Raushan Anuarbekova presents alongside them, the creator of a cultural project called Kazakh Grandmothers Who Amazed the World. Mahin Olimzoda closes the international lineup, presented by Tajikistan Fashion Week.

A show gives a young label a photograph. A room full of buyers gives it a next season.

The Splendid Edit

After the walk

The showroom is where the calculation happens. A dedicated B2B and B2C space sits beside the runway, putting designers in front of buyers, retailers, investors, media and shoppers on the same night. The point is plain. Attention during Fashion Week is easy to win and hard to keep, and a showroom turns a look into a conversation about orders, stockists and terms.

Sustainability takes its own slot on the program. The speakers include Dr. Karen R. Pearson of the Fashion Institute of Technology, Britta Cabanos of Inside Fashion Design and Bridgett Artise, who founded Sustainable Fashion Week US and Born Again Vintage. The night also stages the second international Sustainable Fashion Contest, run with Sustainable Fashion Week US and Inside Fashion Design. The language around material claims has consequences now, and this crowd knows it.

Other rooms

Fashion is not the only thing in the church. An Innovation and Art Experience sets artificial intelligence and digital work next to the clothes, and the Los Angeles artist Robert Vargas performs live while an exhibition shows paintings by Lilit Gevorgyan. New York City Opera adds a performance, which puts a soprano and a sample rail in the same programme. International awards close the evening, among them the ART E$TATE Magazine ceremony and the Unique Fashion Show model prizes.

The pitch behind Unique Fashion Show is that a young house needs more than a good picture. It needs the buyer who was in the seat, the editor who stayed for the showroom, the partner who signed something on the way out. New York gives the visibility. The evening on Park Avenue is an argument about where that visibility should lead.
