Pull the anchor and the deck rises. Under it sits a compartment small enough to keep a secret, inside a trunk built to look like a boat.

Louis Vuitton put the piece at the centre of its High Summer 2026 capsule. It is called the Louis Boat Trunk, and it is a minaudiere shaped like a ship. Canvas, leather and wood, cut down to the size of a clutch.

The shape has a source. The trunk copies The Louis, the vessel-shaped building the house opened on Nanjing Road in Shanghai. This summer marks the flagship's first year, and the little boat is how Vuitton chose to mark it.

The boat

The mechanism does the work. A single anchor sits on the deck, and pulling it lifts the top away to reveal the hollow beneath. The gesture is the whole point. An object that asks to be handled, then rewards the hand that handles it.

Vuitton has made trunks for cameras, for tea, for chess sets. The Boat Trunk belongs to that lineage of the useless-useful, the trunk that carries almost nothing and means a great deal. It is an accessory that doubles as a conversation, set down on a table and waiting to be asked about.

A building became a boat, and the boat became a trunk you can hold in one hand.

The Splendid Edit

The capsule

Around it sits a wardrobe made for warm months and long journeys. High Summer 2026 reads like a packing list for a good week, the days that start by the water, move to the tennis court and finish over a drink as the light drops.

Raffia is the season's material, though not always the real thing. The house recreates its woven grain through trompe-l'oeil, printing and stitching the texture across tweeds and embroidery so the eye reads straw where the hand finds cloth. The Barcelona Capucines carries the theme, and the Minigram denim keeps it light.

Shanghai

The Louis opened as more than a shop. The boat on Nanjing Road holds a cafe, an exhibition floor and the shelves, a building the city adopted quickly and photographed constantly. A year on, it has become a fixed point on the map of luxury in China.

The trunk sends that landmark home in miniature. It leaves Shanghai as an idea and lands on tables in Paris, Tokyo and New York, the flagship reduced to something you can carry and lift open by the anchor. The capsule reached counters worldwide from the tenth of July.
