Milan sets the week, Prada goes first

Milan has its dates. The womenswear shows run 22 to 28 September, and for once the week opens with Prada.

Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana has confirmed the seven-day calendar for Spring/Summer 2027. It lists fifty-four physical runway shows and six digital presentations. The season lands straight after London and runs into the opening day of Paris on 28 September, so the month closes tight again for anyone travelling the circuit.

First day

Prada takes Tuesday 22 September at 2 p.m., a move off its usual Thursday slot. Dhruv Kapoor and Diesel also show on the opening day. Placing Prada at the front hands Milan a headline before the week has properly started.

The same day brings Vogue World: Milano, its fifth edition, staged under the glass roof of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II between La Scala and the Duomo. The theme is Italian craft and the line between the hand and the machine. Organisers tied the night to a commitment of at least two million euros toward turning the Quarto Oggiaro library into a centre for fashion, music and the arts.

Second chapters

Much of the calendar rests on follow-ups. Maria Grazia Chiuri shows her second Fendi collection on Wednesday 23 September. Meryll Rogge takes her second Marni season on Thursday, and Demna sends out his second Gucci ready-to-wear on Friday.

A second show tends to say more than a first. The debut sets a tone; the follow-up shows which ideas are meant to stay. Simone Bellotti carries on at Jil Sander on 23 September, and Louise Trotter presents Bottega Veneta on Saturday 26.

The debut

The one true debut belongs to Moschino. Loris Messina and Simone Rizzo, the founders of Sunnei, present their first collection as the house's co-creative directors on Friday 25 September. They built Sunnei on experimental shows and community branding, and how that reads inside Moschino's language of humour and spectacle is the week's open question.

The established names hold the weekend. Dolce & Gabbana and Ferragamo sit on Saturday, and Giorgio Armani returns on Sunday under the direction of Silvana Armani. Max Mara, Missoni, Etro, Alberta Ferretti, Blumarine, The Attico and Act No.1 fill out the rest.

Two labels arrive for the first time. Marques'Almeida and Miguel Vieira make their Milan debuts, with Vieira scheduled to close the week. Versace stays dark until Pieter Mulier's debut, expected in February, and Boss is off the list.

The calendar is provisional, as every calendar is until the doors open. Times will shift and names will move before September. The shape holds: a sharper start, a run of second collections, and one debut worth the trip.
