On 22 September the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II clears its floor for one night. Vogue World reaches Italy for the first time, and it opens on the argument between the hand and the machine.

Vogue World: Milano runs on Thursday 22 September, the opening day of the spring/summer 2027 shows. It is the fifth edition of the travelling event Anna Wintour started in 2022. New York came first, then London, Paris and Los Angeles. Italy is new to the map.

Vogue Italia confirmed the Milan move last November. The venue followed on 24 February, announced at a press conference in the Sala Alessi of Palazzo Marino after a lunch at Marchesi co-hosted by Prada and Vogue. The choice is the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the glass-roofed arcade between La Scala and the Duomo.

The venue

Milan built its name on making things by hand, and the Galleria is where the city keeps that on show. Prada has held a store under the dome since 1913. The arcade sits at the centre of everything, a short walk from the Quadrilatero and most of the week's show spaces. For one evening the public floor becomes a stage.

The building carries its own weight. It opened in 1877, named for the first king of a unified Italy, and it has functioned as the drawing room of the city ever since. Placing a fashion spectacle inside it reads as a claim about where Milan comes from.

The theme

The title is Where the Future Is Made by the Hand. The night sets Italian craft against artificial intelligence, and it does not pick a winner. The programme runs through thematic acts, from Renaissance brocade to industrial wool, from screen images to woven textile. Wintour framed the Galleria as the right room for that story, a place where heritage, industry and opera have long met.

Francesca Ragazzi, head of editorial content at Vogue Italia, tied the evening to the story of Made in Italy, told now in the age of the machine. Leading Italian houses and master artisans join international talent to carry the theme through the acts.

Each Vogue World has taken a different shape. The 2022 debut paired a runway with a street fair to restart New York after the pandemic. London in 2023 became a night at the theatre for the city's performing arts. Paris in 2024 put fashion beside sport at the Place Vendome, with more than five hundred models, athletes and performers. Hollywood followed in 2025, on fashion and film. Milan takes the craft.

The makers

The production roster runs deep. Juan Costa Paz of the Paris studio Convoy is creative director. Lady Amanda Harlech leads the fashion. Judith Clark, a professor at the University of the Arts London, serves as curator. Marco Balich of Balich Wonder Studios is executive producer, the studio behind a run of Olympic ceremonies. Marie Julie Craeymeersch of Mode and the Moon directs production.

The theme is the oldest argument in Italian fashion, staged on the night the machine learned to draw. Milan sends the hand out first.

The Splendid Edit

The charitable line stays in the city. Vogue has committed a contribution to Milan, set aside for cultural and social projects to be defined with the Municipality. Prada, ALO and Eli Lilly and Company support the evening. The show streams on vogue.com, as the earlier editions did.

Milan opens its week with a party about work. The Galleria will fill with houses, artisans and cameras for one night, then hand the floor back to the shoppers. What Vogue World stages on Thursday, the shows spend the next six days trying to sell.
